Why Are More and More Companies Exporting to Kazakhstan?
Kazakhstan is gaining weight in the international arena. From a past of heavy economic dependence on Russia, Kazakhstan is now positioning itself as an increasingly autonomous player, seeking stronger ties with the European Union, China, and global institutions such as the World Bank and the EBRD.
Strategic investments are multiplying. Through Kazakh Invest, the government is attracting European companies to develop projects in energy, infrastructure, and technology. At the same time, Kazakhstan’s logistics role is becoming key: new transport routes link Europe with China, while offering alternatives to Russia.
Domestically, rising living standards and a growing middle class are creating a market that is not just strategic, but also increasingly attractive for consumer goods, cosmetics, clothing, and industrial machinery. In short: Kazakhstan is opening up, and international companies clearly see the great potential of its market.
What Certifications Are Required to Export to Kazakhstan?
For most products, the main reference is still the EAC Certification (the same used for Russia, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan). If your company already exports to Eurasian Union countries, chances are you already hold an EAC Declaration of Conformity or an EAC Certificate of Conformity or a Certificate of State Registration that can also be used in Kazakhstan.
However, some products fall outside the scope of EAC regulations. In these cases, Kazakhstan applies its own national system: GOST K or GOST ROK (ROK stands for Republic of Kazakhstan). This is especially relevant in areas such as fire safety or metrology, where national rules remain predominant.
What Is the GOST K (ROK) Certification?
GOST K certificates are the national equivalent of Russia’s GOST R system. They cover products excluded from EAC regulations, with a particularly wide application in safety-related fields.
The most common GOST K is the Fire Safety Certificate, which works in a very similar way to the Russian equivalent. Depending on your product and export strategy, there are three types of certificates:
- Single contract (valid only for one shipment)
- 1-year validity
- 3-year validity
Laboratory tests are often required, especially for long-term certificates, which also include factory inspections or audits. For single-contract certificates, technical documentation from the manufacturer may be enough to avoid testing.
Another frequently requested certification is the Metrological Certificate, which can be carried out either in an accredited Kazakh laboratory or directly at the customer’s facilities.
